Anse Cafard Slave Memorial

martinique destinationsLocated on a high hill in southwest Martinique are 20 white stone effigies. They commemorate an 1830 catastrophe when a slave ship failed to properly anchor in Anse Cafard and careened into Martinique’s Diamond Rock Mountain, killing many of the passengers and sailors as well as the slaves who were chained to the cargo hold. This a great place to take photos and learn about history.

Schoelcher Library

The Schoelcher Library is known for its history and ornate design. The building was originally designed and built for an 1889 exposition in Paris before it was shipped to Martinique and reassembled along the west side of La Savane. The library is open Monday afternoons, all day Tuesday through Friday, and on Saturday mornings.

Les Salines

This beautiful beach has crystal clear waters that are calm enough and safe enough for children to play in. The beach has many food vendors walking the sand hawking tasty Martiniquais treats. There are restrooms and accessible showers. Les Salines is absolutely breathtaking, with miles of palm trees and glistening sand.

Les SalinesMont Pelee

Mont Pelee is an active volcano where travelers can enjoy cannoning, hiking a through the area waterfalls and forests. One of the most popular options involves driving to a parking lot, located about one-mile away from the summit, and then making the rest of the trip on foot. The views at the top are stunning and beautiful scenery along the way is breathtaking.

Diamond Beach

This is a rarely crowed peaceful and beautiful beach. Choose this beach if you prefer more peace and quiet while you sunbathe. This part of the island is rather undeveloped, so you’d probably rather visit than lodge here.

Balata Gardens

This private botanical garden just outside Fort-de-France is home to a staggering number of begonias, bromeliads, bamboo and about 300 different types of palm trees. You can arrange to have your flowers delivered to the airport, or visit the Balata Gardens’ satellite shop in the terminal of the Martinique airport. They’ll arrange special packaging to facilitate bringing your flowers on the plane.

St. Louis Cathedral

During your visit you can admire the unusual architecture see the graves of the Martinique governors buried on the grounds. It has been rebuilt six times do to its structure, but know it is well built and has iron framework.

The bungalows at Club Med Buccaneer’s Creek are spread throughout the tropical gardens. They offer large lagoon-style freshwater swimming pool that overlooks the sea. The Club Med Spa offers four individual treatment suites and one couples suite, as well as a relaxation area and a tearoom. Marin Yacht Harbour Marina

This marina is located in one of the most beautiful and protected harbors in the Caribbean. It is Martinique’s largest marina and provides an excellent new facility with an impressive range of amenities and facilities. The marina has a total of 750 berths – including 15 specific berths for Super yachts up to 60 meters in length, with 5 meters draft. They have French Bakery, a computer and electronic service provider, two ATM’s, and a medical center.
